Burner
work with the use of an air burner is highly effective with this
glass. The glass begins to melt quickly upon putting in fire,
so work is simple and can even be recommended to beginners. Also,
another benefit is the tractable formation of shapes, due to
the softness of the glass. |

Satake Glass offers two types of glasses:
lead and soda. Both can be used similarly with an air burner, but
mixture of the two is not recommended. The glass compound may be
subject to cracking. There is no problem adding dots or placing small
amounts of glass to the surface of another glass, but it is not recommended
to craft parts or laces with the two types of glasses.

SIZE:
Diameter: 4-8 millimeters
Length: 22 inches
Approximate Coefficient of Expansion (C.O.E.):
Soda lime color: 113
Lead color: 120
Annealing Temperature:
890°F
|
Annealing temperature: 890°F
Annealing is the controlled, slow cooling of glass to room temperature.
Very small pieces can be put into an insulating agent such as vermiculite
or perlite, which allows them to retain heat and cool slower. Allow
at least 1 hour, depending on size of piece.
If using
an annealing oven or kiln, anneal at 890°F for
10-20 minutes. Lower to 750°F,
20 minutes for small bead, 1 hour for large bead. Lower to 390°F for
2 hours. Turn off and cool to room temperature. |

The
glass is highly sensitive to temperature changes. Finished products
should be well cooled. Even a 1.5 cm tombo-dama requires an hour
of cooling in vermiculite. In warmer temperatures such as summer
times or warm areas, it is recommended to protract cooling time.
For
people whom already use Moretti or Pyrex for burner work, there
are no other necessities. For those whom use oxygen burners, please
be cautious for the glass can melt too much in some cases |
